FishAge was proud to attend the 2026 Georgia Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (GA AFS) annual meeting, where we had the opportunity to share updates on the continued growth of FishAge.org and connect with fisheries professionals across the state.

Showcasing FishAge and Engaging the Fisheries Community

During the conference, we displayed a poster highlighting FishAge as a national resource for fish age estimation training and reference materials. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to introduce new audiences to the platform, discuss ongoing database expansion efforts, and gather feedback from experienced age readers, researchers, and agency biologists. Conversations throughout the meeting reinforced the importance of accessible, high-quality known-age reference collections and collaborative contributions from the fisheries community.

Expanding FishAge Through Collaboration

Expanding the diversity of species, regions, and ageing structures remains a major focus of the project, and meetings like GA AFS play an important role in building partnerships that help make that possible. FishAge will continue building on this momentum as we prepare for the upcoming Southern Division AFS Meeting in New Orleans this March. We look forward to sharing additional updates, connecting with new collaborators, and continuing to grow the FishAge reference collection.

Celebrating the Next Generation of Fisheries Scientists

A special shoutout goes out to the University of Georgia AFS Student Subunit, who showed record attendance of undergraduate students this year and award-winning presentations on the age and growth of multiple species in Georgia. The advancement of fisheries science is in the hands of these young students, and we are inspired by their hard work and dedication!

If you’re attending the Southern Division meeting next month,
we’d love to connect!
