We’ve been busy behind the scenes at FishAge, and we’re excited to share a few updates on what we’ve been working on.
new training resources
One of our biggest areas of focus has been building out new training resources for fish ageing professionals, students, and anyone looking to strengthen their skills. We’re developing a new training page that will bring together practical learning tools, including interactive quizzes, improved instructional content, and more ways to test and reinforce key concepts.

We’re also continuing to add instructional videos, starting with topics like fish ageing basics. Our goal is to make FishAge a useful place to learn, refresh, and build confidence, whether you’re just getting started or looking to sharpen your eye on familiar structures.
exhibiting at aFS!
Another exciting update: FishAge will have an exhibitor booth at the American Fisheries Society Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio, from August 30–September 3. We’re looking forward to meeting people in person, talking about fish ageing, hearing what labs and agencies are working on, and sharing more about where FishAge is headed.

new structures
We’re also still looking to expand the variety of fish ageing structures represented on FishAge. If you have structures, images, collections, or ideas that could support training and reference materials, we’d love to start a conversation.
Otoliths, scales, fin rays, spines, and other ageing structures all help make the platform more useful for the broader fisheries community.
